Why is it happening?
The digital TV switchover is Government policy and it will be complete in 2012. It will mean that almost everyone will be able to receive digital TV through an aerial (Freeview).

Freeview gives you up to 48 free digital TV channels and up to 24 Radio stations. Being Digital gives you a much better quality picture and sound. In addition there are some Pay to View channels available making a total of 70 TV/Radio channels available so why wait till 2012?

Digital TV also uses less broadcast space which means that after switchover, there will be more room for new services such as wireless broadband, local TV and High Definition Television (HDTV).

To keep your TV service, you will need to convert to digital before your area's switchover date.

New features such as on-screen listings, interactivity, audio description and subtitling for people with audio impairments.
Optional additional channels and services including premium channels(e.g movies, sports), broadband and telephony.
No monthly charge, subscription or contract (The extra Pay to View channels are available at ("TOP UP TV") so when purchasing your receiver make sure it has a CAM Card receiver if you are considering the extra channels

Freeview Plus

This allows you to record your favourite programmes with no need for DVD/Tape Recorders or a seperate HDD Recorder, providing your Digital Receiver is Freeview Plus. It also has the ability to allow you to pause, rewind, fast forward live TV making sure no matter what you are up to you will never miss a moments viewing even if the phone rings or the doorbell goes half way through.
